twenty twelve.
So last year I wrote a blog reflecting on how I didn’t want 2011 to leave me so soon.  2012 turned out to be pretty great too, let’s take a look. I started off the year, running my first 5K.  Though I wouldn’t say I ran all of it, it was the super fun Color Run with some of my closest friends.   I got my first ESL classroom, loved teaching more than I imagined and fell in...

kyle.
Two years ago I lost a friend.  He was innocent, loving, inspiring and strong, breathing Jesus everywhere he went.  I took this picture to make a poster for some of Kyle’s shows.  I miss his music and I miss him.

the only american
I live in a house full of international people.  I am the only american.  A few weeks ago I watched my Romanian landlord sweep snow onto a rug to clean it, she then wiped it all around the kitchen floor.

best dressed
Last night was the Golden Globes, and I watched it all.  Ricky Gervais was hilarious, and the celebs pulled out the most beautiful gowns ever.  So who was best dressed? Hands down, Charlize Theron. But there were several close runners up: Shailene Woodley of the Descendants Michelle Williams is always adorable, and she won for My Week With Marilyn.  Viola Davis of the Help. ...

don't leave me so soon.
My friend, Jordan Steele wrote a reflective blog on 2011, and as I read it I thought to myself how fantastic 2011 was, and that my year also needed to be documented.  I am grasping to hold on to 2011.  It was one of the best year’s of my life.  Shall we review?  I visited Portland for the first time.   And I loved it.  One of my best friends from college lives there, and we had a...

Things my mom is really concerned with that I'm...
1.  Ironing things.  I think I have used an iron two times in the last five years.  I think wrinkles are a weird thing that our parents are obsessed with and we just stopped caring about them.  I have a “just wear it and the wrinkles will come out” mentality.  2.  Matching.  My mom insists on everything matching perfectly.  She’s definitely opening her horizons though. ...

top 5 meals of all time.
I am by no means a foodie.  So don’t get any ideas that this list will enchant you.  Today when I was eating one of my favorite meals, I thought of my other favorites and also remembered that this is exactly what a blog is for. #1.  My mom’s chicken & wild rice soup. Some things you just won’t ever make as good as your mom does, and this is one thing I wish I could.  #2. ...

eat pray love
There are moments that I get the most incredible desire to go everywhere.  Sometimes I can’t sit still because I want to see the whole world. It makes me crazy. France Thailand Denmark New Zealand Japan Croatia, Thailand, Italy, Australia, Russia, Iceland, Indonesia, Brazil, New Zealand.  It’s just overwhelming.  Thanks a lot Julia Roberts.

annoying things people say to me when i'm in...
I live in Flagstaff, Arizona.  Flagstaff Arizona is at an elevation level of 7,000 feet.  The average snowfall in Flagstaff per year is 80 inches.  It was even named the #5 snowiest city. I am from Minnesota.  So when I go home, people say annoying things like 1.  Why didn’t you bring the warm weather with you?  [winner of most annoying] 2.  I’m sure you wish you were back there...

my extreme love and equally extreme hate for...
The Twilight Saga.  It’s all the rage.  And part of it is founded.  The other part of it is ridiculous and I laugh my head off at every movie.  But I still bought the books, read them, saw the movies in the theater and even watched marathons after they came out on DVD with my mom and best girlfriends.  Aside from Team Jacob paraphernalia, I have consumed all that they hope a Twilight...

things that happen when you aren't a teenager...
I’m 27.  That’s not actually old but some things creep up around one’s twenties that start to make you realize you’re no longer so young.  1.  You get sick easier.  Pick your method of uncomfort: acid reflux, indigestion, stomach pains, heartburn.  I find myself reaching for the tums more than I had ever envisioned.  In your twenties, you can no longer eat like a Gilmore...

life lessons from my refrigerator
1.  If you think it’s a good idea to make a large batch of smoothies to save for the week, think again.  It’s disgusting 20 minute after they are made.  Surprise: Storing a smoothie in a nalgene bottle, will in fact make your nalgene smell like old smoothie forever.  Lesson: You must drink a smoothie immediately after making it.  2. If you think it’s a good idea to cut up...

When did everyone stop wearing pants?
As of recent, the appropriacy of clothing has seriously gone downhill. I like to give credit to this gross trend to some current pop artists who forgot their bottoms.  Unfortunately, this trend has also brought extreme immodesty to the gym.  I have seen so many girls working out in tiny spandex shorts like these: This has shown up at zumba, step class and even on girls just running.  This is...

joy.
This week I was officially accepted to work with a wonderful organization in China next fall.  This is the beginning of fulfilling the journey to the next place I am supposed to be.  That is all together satisfying, terrifying and encouraging.  Two years ago I was a disaster. One year ago, I was getting better but still in such a dark place.  I didn’t have much hope of anything more...

another reason why my mom is awesome.
This is the box I received yesterday.   And here are the contents: My mom is so thoughtful.  I love getting gifts from her.  This was a box full of things I love.  Thanks Mom.  You’re the best.  And isn’t her handwriting cool?  It’s always the same.

while not listening.
Today, in a break between classes, while my dear classmates were talking linguistics, esl and testing validity, I put on the florence + the machine album, stuck in my earbuds and felt like I was in some music video. I was in an alternate reality of cool kids, bright colors and blazers with vintage t-shirts. It was a nice break.

honeymoon photos.
I love taking photos more than most people in the world, and documenting every second of my life.  But there’s an exception.  Honeymoons.  I think that photos of honeymoons are weird.  Here are the reasons why: 1.  it’s just two people (so it’s either myspaced or individuals) 2.  it’s always pictures of one of the two people with food.  And a lot of these photos tend...

Rachel Bilson vs. Sarah Michelle Gellar
I wouldn’t really nominate Sarah Michelle Gellar or Rachel Bilson for an acting award.  What else do these two have in common?  Two attempts at new television dramas, both airing on the CW.  In my opinion, one a total failure and one just cheesy enough that I might get hooked. Hart of Dixie Her life is about to go south. I was a huge fan of the OC, which automatically makes me involved...

Thursday Night: The good, the bad and the ugly
The good: Bethenny Frankel’s True Hollywood Story A fantastic fairy tale story of going from a little girl abandoned at the race tracks to becoming a millionaire off her own low-calorie drinks, inspiring books and dazzling personality on reality TV.  I am partial, because I am obsessed with Bethenny Frankel.  She is my all time favorite celebrity.  She helped me see that I will still be...

Wednesday Night
Criminal Minds There was a serious upset on Criminal Minds but it wasn’t so much of a surprise to anyone on the internet or watching E News.  The assumed dead is now alive!  Prentis’ return to life is reminiscent of Harry Potter 7.  This show is still fantastic and I can’t believe the creative plots they continue to come up with and fool me every time.  I can’t resist...

Tuesday Night Opinions
I know that it is Wednesday, but I have opinions about two Tuesday night shows I watched last night. As I hoped that New Girl would be good, all my wishes came true.  I am typically bugged by the characters that Zooey Deschanel plays because everyone worships her quirks and thinks she would be the perfect girlfriend.  Well, in real life quirky, non-dependable and selfish women make horrible...
